ALTHOUGH January has always been a bad month for unemployment figures, Malaga Province only registered an extra 3,790 jobless people last month.
The SAE Andalucian Employment Service report for January gave a total of 197,116 people registered as looking for work.
The increase was lower than that of January 2014 (5,400) but slightly higher than two years ago (3,752).
More women than men were affected with 2,291 joining the unemployment lists compared to 1,499 men.
Unemployment increased for all sectors apart from construction, yet the annual figures were encouraging as there were 10,996 fewer jobless people in the province compared to the end of January 2014.
