PENELOPE CRUZ has lost her case against Danish tabloid Ekstra Bladet, which she sued for publishing topless photos of her on its website.

Although the photos were taken on a public beach, the Spanish actress sued the publication and demanded 175,000 kroners (about €23,500) in compensation after her topless photos and photos of her son, Leo, were published on Ekstra Bladet’s website in September 2013.

Cruz appealed the original decision by a Copenhagen court last summer, but the higher court has now confirmed the decision and ordered the actress to pay the 25,000 kroner (just under €3,300) legal costs from the case.

Chief editor Poul Madsen stated: “The sentence shows that being a foreign celebrity doesn’t give anyone the right to come and demand compensation in our country.”
