Fitur tourism fair in Madrid registers best year since before financial crisis began

THE 35th edition of Fitur International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid closes its doors today (February 1) with positive results for the tourism sector.

Fair director Ana Larrañaga announced that about 225,000 people visited the fair, which was opened by King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain on January 28.

Provisional figures spoke of the best results for the fair since the financial crisis began, with a 5 per cent increase in professional visitors this year and a 12 per cent increase in international participation.

Shopping and health tourism sectors were positive additions to the fair this year as destinations search for new ways to beat seasonal slumps and attract visitors all year round.

With new technologies providing great new ways to attract the public’s attention, stands offered a variety of interactive tools including virtual bike rides-

Next year’s edition of the fair is already being planned, and promises to have even more to offer the public than this year, Larrañaga said.
