A POWER cut left Alhaurin de la Torre prison in darkness for more than 12 hours due to electrical faults.
Although no violence or attempts to escape were reported at the Costa del Sol facility, UGT and prison workers’ unions reported that chaos broke out during the cut, with prisoners unable to communicate with their visitors, meals served cold and workers having to use torches to make sure prisoners were in their cells.
A worker at the jail later stated: “The power-cut affected security within the centre. The prisoners behaved better than could have been expected.”
