THE Masons, an institution commonly known for its secrecy and mystery, is opening up to the public in Marbella this week.

An exhibition at the Cortijo Miraflores cultural centre, starting January 22 and running until Friday January 30, aims to take some of the mystery out of masonry by putting 400 objects on display and giving five conferences.

Manuel Barea, Master Mason of the Grand Provincial Lodge of Andalucia and Venerable Master of the Respectable Millennium 122 Lodge of Marbella, explained: “This year we’ve put a plan in place to open up to society and remove some of the myths from masonry.”

Four masons and a historian will give talks on masonry during the week, and 400 objects have been brought from the Masonic Museum of Andalucia for the general public to view, including a copy of a bible printed in the UK in 1804 upon which initiated lodge members swear oaths.
