Torrevieja gets in party spirit for carnival time

CARNIVAL: streets of Torrevieja are brought to life WEIRD & WONDERFUL: bright and colourful creations annually grace Torrevieja's Carnival

TORREVIEJA is officially in carnival mode.

Carnival 2015 celebrations were launched at the weekend with the declaration and coronation of the carnival queens at the municipal theatre.

The VIII annual Drag Queen Contest, now an ever-popular event in Torrevieja’s cultural calendar, will take place on Saturday January 24, at 9pm in the municipal theatre with tickets costing €5.

But the main events remain the parades. This year the carnival, now declared of ‘Provincial Tourist Interest’, will include 37 troupes, including five foreign groups, who will be competing for a prize. Registration to take part is still open and those interested should email carnavaldetorrevieja@hotmail.com.

The prize-giving ceremony will take place after the afternoon parade on February 8, which starts in the Plaza Maria de la Asuncion and heads down Calle Ramon Gallud. The following Saturday, February 14, sees the main night parade leave from the same spot at 10pm.
