A MAN and a woman have been arrested in Motril, Axarquia, for stealing money from a 74-year-old.
The man allegedly tricked the elderly woman into thinking that he was a social worker from the town’s council and also an ambulance driver, and she trusted him with the management of her bank accounts as her health problems prevented her from doing it.
The woman authorised the suspect to carry out any payments on her behalf.
It is claimed he started transferring amounts of money from the woman to his personal account without her knowledge. In total, €37,000 was transferred from the victim’s bank account.
Concerns were raised when he apparently tried to withdraw €6000 without the owner’s permission.
After a lawsuit was issued against him, National Police officers were able to find the money, which had been transferred to an account under the name of the other detainee. Both have been taken into custody.
