THE Junta de Andalucia regional government will continue to pay for the renovation works of the Salobreña Arab Castle, Axarquia.
Representative Manuel Morales, who recently visited the monument, has assured that the regional government will take care of the works’ funding in 2015.
Historic remains uncovered during the execution of the works have forced the regional government to expand the budget originally considered for this project.
In addition, it is necessary to adapt the facilities and provide them with the equipment which will turn it into a major tourist spot, as well as creating a museum project.
Mr Morales stressed the importance of these new projects, aimed at adding to the Costa Tropical’s tourist attractions and reducing tourism seasonality as the region not only offers quality beaches, but also a rich historic heritage.
A total of €598,000, 60 per cent of the budget, has been paid for the Sustainable Tourism Initiative (ITS) paid for the by the Junta, and 40 per cent has been paid by the town’s council.
In 2015, 19 projects will be carried out around the Costa Tropical, with a budget of over one million euros, paid for by local governments and a private company.
