MEMBERS of the Urcal Fat Boys and Birds Club in Almeria, along with Urcal’s deputy mayor, Antonio Lazaro, and Maria Dolores of the tourism office, visited Sister Teresa and the residents of Hogar Virgen del Rio, Huercal-Overa to present them with a donation of money and various food parcels.
The club undertook a sponsored ‘Slimathon’ to raise funds, culminating in a charity disco with a prize raffle and auction at The Palms in Urcal.
Thirty-nine members participated in the ‘Slimathon’ and were supported in their efforts by many local expats, resulting in €2,060 being raised. Ten sacks of dried foods and goods were also donated.
The club wishes to thank all those who took part in the fundraising, and also local businesses for their generosity in donating raffle prizes, as well as a special thank you to Fred Whalley for donating the handmade, carved, wooden chest for the auction.
