SAINT Mary the Crowned, patron saint of San Roque

SAN ROQUE has started to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the arrival of its patron saint, the Virgin Saint Mary The Crowned, to the Andalucian town from Gibraltar.

The Bishop of Cadiz, Rafael Zornoza, held a special mass in honour of the saint and a torch-lit procession through the town attracted members of the council and hundreds of residents.

The Venerable Hermandad de Gloria de Nuestra Excelsa Patrona Santa Maria la Coronada brotherhood, in collaboration with the town hall, has planned a number of events this year to celebrate the anniversary.
