EL VERGER Council took the first steps towards approving a new campsite for the town.
The 40,000-square metre first-category site will be located behind the town hall, adjoining the Els Poblets boundary.
It is two years since El Verger Council announced the initial proposal for a campsite near the sea with plots for caravans, camping and luxury villas during the Fitur tourist fair in Madrid.
The tourism it attracts will “bring more life to the town,” insisted Mayor Miguel Gonzalez and benefit other activities within the community.
Opposition councillors who voted against declaring the campsite of community interest were voting against the town’s interests, Gonzalez added. All reports on the project had been favourable which made their stance all the more surprising, according to the mayor.
