THE anti-bullfighting campaign Mallorca Sense Sang (Bloodless Mallorca), led by animal rights group AnimaNaturalis and non-profit advocacy group against bullfighting CAS International, collected more than 70,000 signatures in 2014 against “torture and death for fun on the island.”
No other anti-bullfighting campaign on the island has had such a resounding success or gained support from so many politicians, entrepreneurs and celebrities from the world of music and culture, said AnimaNaturalis in a statement.
As many as 16 municipalities on the island have banned bullfighting, namely Arta, Sencelles, Santa Maria del Cami, Algaida, Porreres, Capdepera, Lloseta, Santa Margalida, Manacor, Campanet, Deia, Sant Joan, Costitx, Esporles, Puigpunyent and Consell.
AnimaNaturalis estimates that many more could follow their example in 2015 by showing their rejection of bullfighting.
