THE third edition of the Carrera Ciclista del Cochinillo (piglet cycling race) was rescheduled in Huercal Overa.
The race was moved from December 18 to December 21, with professional cyclists including Juan Antonio Sanchez Navarro, Javier Chacon Quesada and Manuel Martinez Costa all participating.
The race gets a huge amount of media coverage due to its uniqueness, with journalists coming from Britain, China, Denmark, Greece and South Africa.
The race directed cyclists through a Huercal Overa street circuit in 16 laps, starting and ending at Avenida Guillermo Reyna.
Councillor for Sports, Alonso Mena, highlighted the good reception, adding: “Carrera Ciclista del Cochinillo is already a landmark in the holiday sports programme, both for our province and those nearby.”
He went on to encourage everyone to get involved in future races. The overall winner receives a trophy and a live piglet. There are also prizes including hams and wine for the first three in each category.
