HUNDREDS of foreign residents and visitors gathered together in the Plaza de la Constitucion in Torrevieja for the 12th annual Carols in the Square carol concert in English.
Launched in 2002 by the city’s Department of Immigration, the event attracts particularly British and Scandinavian residents, who gather in front of the main door of the church to get in the festive spirit.
The Phoenix Band, directed by Julie Schofield, headed the singing with the choir composed of more than 100 choristers from different nationalities. This year, the Torrevieja Municipal School Choir, under the direction of Selena Cansino, also took part. The mayor and councillors were also in attendance.
Following the carols, an international mass was held in the Inmaculada Church, dedicated to the foreign residents of Torrevieja of whatever nationality.
Once again, there was the offering of non-perishable foodstuffs to be distributed to the needy of the town.
