British woman beats tourism record

NORFOLK woman Annita George won a place in Costa del Sol history last week by becoming Tourist 10 Million.

Annita and her husband were received in style upon arrival in Malaga on an easyJet flight from Stansted airport.

Annita and her husband are long-standing fans of the Costa del Sol and own property in San Pedro de Alcantara.

Elias Bendodo, head of Malaga Provincial Council and Malaga-Costa del Sol Tourist Board, welcomed the couple to Malaga accompanied by State Tourism Secretary Isabel Borrego, airport director Salvador Merino, Malaga City Tourism councillor Julio Andrade and head of relations with the World Tourism Board, Carlos Vogeler.

Mrs George was presented with vouchers for a three-day stay at a five-star hotel, dinner at a Michelin star restaurant, a spa session and a flamenco show at Sala El Embrujo-Complejo El Segoviano, valid for one year.

Bendodo explained that the arrival of tourist number 10 million had broken tourism records for the Costa del Sol and thanked everyone involved in the tourist sector for their hard work without which he stressed the achievement would not have been possible.

The best previous year for tourism in Costa history was 2008 with a total of 9,650,000 visitors registered. With 10 million and over two weeks to go before the year ends, 2014 has already beaten the record with ease.
