RCD MALLORCA midfielder Marco Asensio has signed for Real Madrid for the next six seasons.
The Balearic football club made the official announcement on its Twitter account. “RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco Asensio, who will continue playing on the island at least until the end of this season,” read the tweet.
After securing a place in his club’s starting lineup, the Mallorca-born 18-year-old footballer has undeniably been one of the sensations of Liga Adelante (Second division) this season, and his talent has not gone unnoticed. He was also a target for FC Barcelona who tried to sign him during the summer football transfer window but to no avail.
Real Madrid will reportedly pay RCD Mallorca €3.9 million for the player, who made his professional debut with Mallorca B in Tercera Division – fourth-highest division overall in the Spanish football league system – during the 2013-2014 season. He scored three goals in 14 appearances.
