Internet addiction

TWENTY FIVE per cent of Spaniards between 18 and 64 years old are addicted to the Internet, says a study.

In addition, 26 per cent admit that their personal life depends in a great measure on their mobile phone, according to a report created by the Organisation of consumers and Users (OCU).

Spaniards spend an average of five hours per day surfing the net or using the phone.

The study shows that the main activities carried out on the internet are reading emails, searching for information online and using social media, with 85 per cent of those surveyed having an account on a social media platform.

The OCU measured the average rate of addiction to mobile devices of Spanish people on a scale from 20 to 100, with the result being 31.4, a rather low level of addiction.

More than 1,900 people were interviewed for this study which was designed to evaluate online patterns and spot risky behaviour.
