Expat golfer reigns in Spain

TWO Orihuela Costa residents have won a renowned golfing tournament, putting them top in the Valencia Region.

Simon Foster and Emilio Rodriguez Aguilera won the Professional Doubles Championships of the Comunidad Valenciana, played at Foressos Golf Clyb. Sixty-four golfers from across the region played a fourball format over 18 holes of championship golf. Simon and Emilio won with a score of 65, seven under par.

It was a great achievement for the local pair who are prominent on the local golf scene and in promoting the sport amongst youngsters. Simon previously set up a golf academy at Vista Bella for youngsters and golf pro Emilio, whose father was also a top golfer, is affiliated to Villamartin Golf Club.

Following their championship win, Orihuela’s Councillor for the Coast, Martina Scheurer, joined them on the golf course to offer her congratulations.
