CAROL ANN SUSI, a regular actress on hit comedy show The Big Bang Theory, has died after a brief battle with cancer.

The 62-year-old actress was the voice behind the mysterious Mrs Wolowitz, mother of Howard Wolowitz, one of the main characters in the show played by Simon Helberg.

Although we did not see Mrs Wolowitz in person as she was just a voice, usually screaming at Howard whilst in his room, Susi provided viewers with the comedy element of an over-protective, embarrassing mother.

She travelled to Los Angeles in the 1970s to pursue an acting career and was cast in many popular films and TV series including The Night Stalker, Mad About You, Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy.

Warner Bros issued a statement, which said: “The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi, who hilariously and memorably voiced the role of Mrs Wolowitz.”

They proceeded to compliment her talent by saying: “Unseen by viewers, the Mrs Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show’s eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann’s immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance. In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly.”

It is unsure how the company will address the passing of Susi in the show as the character of Mrs Wolowitz is currently in a storyline with another character, Stuart.
