DOLORES O’RIORDAN, former singer of popular, alternative band The Cranberries, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a female flight attendant on a flight from New York JFK airport.

Ms O’Riordan was met by local Garda after disembarking from the Aer Lingus plane that had just arrived at Shannon Airport in Ireland in the early hours of this morning.

The 43-year-old was arrested under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and will be questioned in regards to the assault.

The flight attendant suffered an injury to her foot and had to be taken to hospital. A Garda that was present when Ms O’Riordan departed the aircraft was also assaulted but suffered no injury.

A spokesman for the airline Aer Lingus described the incident as a “security matter” and refused to comment further, but did confirm an incident took place.

Irish-born O’Riordan rose to fame with The Cranberries in 1990 with their first album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? They went on to release four top albums on the Billboard 200 Chart and sold over 40 million albums worldwide.
