GOLD MEDAL winner Dani King is currently in hospital due to a crash caused by a pothole.

The Olympic cyclist was riding in Cardiff, on a route that was close to her home, when a pothole covered by a large puddle caused her accident.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital where it was discovered she has a collapsed lung and five broken ribs.

Another rider to the side of her on the route went down first, falling into Miss King,  who was immediately taken to hospital by paramedics. Several of the other riders accompanying her were also taken to hospital with injuries caused by the pothole incident.

Steve Fry, Miss King’s agent, has called upon authorities to improve the roads in the area as a bid to stop accidents like this happening.

It is unsure when Miss King will be back to training and competing again.
