RAID: Police arrest eight, as numerous weapons and stolen items are recovered in Operation Canaveral.
OPERATION Canaveral has seen the arrest of eight people in the Vega Baja. Included was a man, arrested in Almoradi, suspected of at least 15 counts of robbery with violence and intimidation. The other seven are accused of receiving stolen goods.
Police launched an investigation in the summer after there were reports of several robberies from youngsters in the towns of Almoradi, Benejuzar, Rojales and San Bartolome causing public concern amongst residents.
The accused targeted young people at night, hiding behind vehicles and armed with a knife ready to surprise and attack them, stealing personal effects such as jewellery, mobile phones and hand bags. Due to the violence in the attacks, three victims also recorded slight injuries.
