A 22-year-old woman has allegedly been found beheaded at her home in Fuengirola, a popular tourist destination on the Costa del Sol.

Police were called to the scene at around 9.15am today. It was reported that the woman and her 19-year-old brother, both from Ecuador, had been arguing earlier in the day. He has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The brother is believed to have mental health difficulties and reported himself to the authorities after carrying out the attack with a knife.

Reports differ as to whether she was beheaded or had her throat slashed but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The residence has been cordoned off by the police and the body removed for forensic examination.

Fuengirola, a former fishing village, is now a popular destination with around 72,000 residents both Spanish and expatriates from Britain and all over the world. It is also extremely popular with British tourists especially in the summer season.
