Voting registration for EU nationals

FOREIGN residents of EU nationality living in Spain are being urged to register to vote in time for the municipal elections in May of next year.

EU nationals who live in Spain have until December 30 to register to vote.

There are already more than 400,000 EU nationals registered to vote in Spain, and the central statistics office has sent out letters to an additional 422,008 people who are entitled to vote in their local municipal elections but are not yet registered to do so.

In the provinces with the highest numbers of resident EU nationals, letters have been sent to 32,000 people in Malaga, 38,000 people in Alicante, 29,000 people in Valencia, 58,000 people in Madrid and 45,000 people in Barcelona.

Future voters must be registered with their local Padron, easily done at the town hall. To register to vote simply fill in and return the form received in the post, go to your local town hall or visit www.sede.ine.gob.es

Of those already registered to vote, 70,000 are in the Alicante province, with another 38,000 in Malaga and 21,000 in the Balearics.
