Honey I Shrunk The Kids Actress Dies

Marcia Strassman, who was best known for her role as the mother in ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ has died aged 66.

The actress, passed away at her home in California after a long battle with breast cancer.

Strassman, who had a career spanning over 50 years, was born in New York. She began her career as a singer, charting a few times in the US but with little success she turned to acting. She landed her first television role in 19 in 1971, playing the nurse Margie Cutler, in the hugely successful sitcom  ‘M*A*S*H’.

In 1975, Marcia won the hearts of the nation in her first lead role as as Julie Kotter in the hugely successful ABC TV series ‘Welcome Back, Kotter’.

Throughout the late seventies and eighties, she appeared in many television hits such as ‘Time Express’, ‘The Rockford Files’ and ‘The Love Boat’, but her big cinema break came in 1989 when she was asked to play the mother alongside her co-star Rick Moranis in ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ and then later on in the 1992 sequel ‘Honey, I Blew Up the Kid’.

Strassman was a member of the Screen Actors Guild national board, and was elected to a three-year term in 2010. She was also an active fundraiser for cancer charities and other causes.

She is survived by her daughter and brother.
