Guardia CIVIL, through the SEPRONA division, have rescued a griffon vulture after it fell into water at Playa del Marques in Vera.
The bird had fallen into water but was unable to get airborne again. A passerby had managed to restrain the large bird by draping a towel over it until SEPRONA agents arrived. The officers took over the care of the vulture until representatives from the Patrol Protection of Nature (PAPRONA) could take responsibility for the vulture, which is a protected species. The bird was wet, exhausted, and unable to fly, but has since recovered and has now been released.
The man who originally found the bird told agents that he observed the bird flying towards the shore when it was caught by waves.
