Pink and Blue ball a roaring success

MORE than €23,000 was raised for cancer screening programmes at this year’s highly successful Pink & Blue Ball.

The annual event has left organisers “overwhelmed” with the support shown to their cause and has ensured that the Positively Pink charity can continue to provide free breast and prostate cancer screenings to expatriates living on the coast.

Held at El Oceano Hotel near Fuengirola, the 150-plus guests enjoyed an evening of great entertainment provided by a selection of local and international artists including Julia-Ann Hunter, international soprano.

According to the Positively Pink organisation, the €23,000 raised on the night is still rising thanks to the support of local businesses and individuals both on the Costa del Sol and in the UK. “This was an exciting evening and exceeded our expectations on the amount that we raised,” said Lorraine Palmer, president of Positively Pink.

“We are overwhelmed with the support we have received. The Pink & Blue Ball was a great success thanks to the support of the artists, volunteers and all the fabulous people who came along to generously support the charity, as well as all of the local businesses and individuals who gave so generously. Events like this that are well supported ensure that we are able to provide free screening programmes to all British expats living on the Costa del Sol.”

Not only was the night in question a huge success, but the following day another €1,400 was raised for Positively Pink at the same venue during their popular Sunday lunch service. The funny and talented drag act ‘Dragtastic’ put on a show for the assembled guests who again gave generously to the cause.

Positively Pink is a charity based in Mijas whose purpose is to raise the necessary funds to provide education, support and free breast and prostate cancer screenings to British men and women living on the coast. More than 560 women availed of the charity’s services in 2013 and thankfully only a small number of women received a positive diagnosis. So far this year the charity has offered 1,000 breast screening and 200 prostate screening appointments. For more information on the Positively Pink organisation visit www.positively-pink.com
