GUARDIA Civil officers have arrested 47-year-old Conrad T, the supposed leader of a criminal narcotics organisation. The Belgian authorities have been hunting for the man, who has a 10-year sentence pending in Belgium for bringing 155 kilograms of cocaine into Belgium, in July 2011 inside a shipment of tuna from Ecuador. He is also accused of belonging to an armed gang and of money laundering.
In July 2013, the Guardia Civil received information placing Conrad in Spain. An investigation was started by the Guardia’s fugitive location team to find and detain him. At first he was located in Malaga Province, but the extreme security measures he used to avoid the police meant his trail was lost. Continued investigations brought to light the fact that he had a sporadic relationship with a woman living in Madrid. Officers had her followed over the following months, until the accused was sighted leaving her home on October 13, and he was arrested.
The detainee is currently awaiting extradition to Belgium.
