Isabel Pantoja awaiting prison

THE FAMOUS Spanish singer, Isabel Pantoja, who was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of €1,147,000 has been notified by the judge in Madrid that she has 10 days to pay the fine and present herself in prison.

The singer arrived in court accompanied by two women, one of which was her lawyer Graciela Otondo. The press were waiting outside to ask her questions about the notification she had received and if she would pay back the money, but she just replied: “No quiero contar nada. Dejadme.” (I don’t want to say anything, leave me alone).

Friends and fans of the vocalist are helping to raise the money she needs to pay the court penalty. Pantoja, her ex-partner and ex-mayor of Marbella Julian Muñoz and four others were sentenced in Malaga for money laundering offences. Muñoz is already in prison.

Court no 2 in Malaga, who sentenced the singer, require Pantoja to present herself in prison ready to serve the 24-month sentence within 10 days.

She also has 10 days to pay the fine and the indictment warns that if she does not present herself within 10 days, ‘There will be a warrant out for her arrest’ and if she doesn’t pay the fine, ‘she will serve an extra term in prison’ of six months.

Both in Malaga and Madrid, the judges agreed that Isabel was fully aware about ‘the money that Julian Muñoz put in her bank accounts’ and that together as a couple, they had jointly used the money for various acquisitions.

Both courts overturned her defence case stating that she was financially self-sufficient and was in no need of any money from her ex-partner.
