Suicide attempt stopped by police

GUARDIA CIVIL officers managed to save the life of a 46-year-old man after a suicide attempt in Sufli.

Officers from Purchena and Tijola responded to a call to the emergency services, notifying them of a man in Sufli who had taken an overdose. Guardia Civil officers immediately attended the house. There was no answer at the door, so the officers looked through the window where they could see an unconscious man surrounded by medicine bottles and an empty tequila bottle.

The officers used an axe to force entry and found the man was choking on his own vomit and convulsing. They placed him immediately into the recovery position, which cleared his airway. The officers’ prompt response and actions saved the man’s life and he was transferred to Huercal Overa hospital.
