A CONSTRUCTION worker has been killed in Murcia after being buried alive in a tragic workplace accident.
The worker, a 38-year-old Spaniard, died on Tuesday evening, September 30, on a construction site in the Guadalupe district of Murcia. An incline on the site collapsed resulting in the man becoming trapped under a mountain of earth. Despite the rescue efforts of colleagues, nothing could be done to save his life.
The accident happened just after 5pm when, according to La Verdad, a large mound of earth on the construction site was disturbed by works being carried out, causing it to collapse, burying the man.
The emergency services attended the scene, but the victim was pulled unresponsive from the ground and could not be resuscitated.
Fatal accidents in the workplace have reduced dramatically by some 50 per cent within the last year, and up until July the region had registered 12 fatal accidents, none of which occurred in the construction sector.
