Tourist spending

TOURIST spending in the Balearics grew by 4.3 per cent in August compared to the same month in 2013, reaching €2.7 billion.

It is the first month of the year so far that visitors to the Island’s spent more than in 2013, with the exception of April (accounted for the fact that Easter was in April this year and March last year.)

The improvement in revenue is down to the increase in the number of tourists as the amount they spend has actually fallen. Foreign visitors spent an average of €1,070 during their stay, 3.5 per cent less than a year ago.

Mallorca’s spending reached €1.8 billion in August with the British spending the most.
