ACCORDING to data provided by Huercal Overa Town Hall, more than 2,400 visitors attended the British Spanish integration day in Huercal Overa on September 20.
Attendees enjoyed a mix of dancing, music and the traditional cuisine from both nationalities in a day that brought the entire town together in a spirit of unity. The council took over the cost of buying the ingredients for the food and the profits went to local associations for issuing to local causes.
The welcome ceremony was attended by Mayor Domingo Fernandez, as well as representatives from the Huercal Overa Council and the British Honorary Consul for Almeria, Alejandria Guerrero Salvador. The mayor said: “This is a day of celebration for the citizens of both nationalities to get to know each other better. More than 1,200 British citizens live in Huercal Overa. Today they have taught us their traditions and customs and have learned ours in return.”
