Tranquil dining at Hermanas

WALKING into Hermanas Portals on the Bendinat/Portals border, a very tranquil area, it has a distinctive Mediterranean meets Africa type theme, with a great ambience and chill out music playing in the background. Shisha pipes and artefacts everywhere from both areas add to its personality.

The owners Lisa and Debby welcome you to their Bistro and are very attentive throughout your meal.

The menu has a variation of many different dishes ranging from Chicken Curry with rice or chips, Steak & Onion Pie with chips/mash, veg and gravy, Lasagne with chips/salad & garlic bread, Fajitas & chips/rice & salad, Angus steakburger with chips & salad, all looked mouth watering making it a hard choice.

They also have Thai Thursdays, Fish and Chip Fridays, Sunday Roasts and some house favourites from the menu which Lisa said have been a great hit this summer: Crispy Buffalo Wings with their secret HPHQ spicy sauce (with celery & blue cheese dip) and Penne Arrabiata and garlic bread.

Traditional Sunday Lunch, one course 11.50€, two courses 15€.

This week consisted of Roast Beef on a bed of mashed potato, with a Yorkshire pudding on top and crispy parsnip strips, surrounded by roast potatoes. Cooked to perfection with a huge side dish of fresh vegetables cooked al dente, such as mange tout, carrot sticks, broccoli and cauliflower. Heaven on a plate. Just the right time for a nice Sunday roast as the temperatures are dropping or the other option was Roast Pork Knuckle falling off the bone with roasted stuffing on a bed of mashed potatoes with roast potatoes around the plate.

This amazing meal didn’t leave much room for dessert but I did spy that there was a home-made sticky toffee pudding which I will try next time.

They have a good wine list and plenty to choose from in Reds, Whites and Rosé at excellent prices, too many to list.

They have Sammy who is an expert at making cocktails and an extensive cocktail list, cocktails are 7.95€ and for something a little different the shisha pipe is available for 10€. They cater for for all sorts of parties.

There will be a Halloween Party and they are taking bookings for Christmas Day. They are also having a New Year’s Eve Party. They are open Wednesday to Friday from 3pm and at the weekend from 1pm until late!
