NINETEEN immigrants have been rescued by Maritime Rescue from a vessel six miles east of the island of Alboran.
The inflatable boat was first spotted and reported to the authorities in the vicinity of Bouyafar, east of Melilla. A search operation was launched with Caliope and the plane Sasemar. It was finally intercepted close to Alboran. The 19 occupants of the boat were all of sub-Saharan origin, 12 adult males, three adult females and four infants.
The rescued occupants were transferred to the port of Almeria where Cruz Roja checked their health before they were taken for processing.
