John Lennon film Spain’s offering at Oscars

THE Spanish Film Academy has selected a movie about a man’s quest to meet John Lennon as the entry for best foreign film in next year’s Oscars.

The movie ‘Vivir es Facil con los Ojos Cerrados’ (Living is Easy with Eyes Closed) relates the story of an English language teacher who travels to Almeria in 1966 in the hope of meeting the Beatles star, who is staying there.

The movie, directed by David Trueba, is named after a line in the lyrics of the Beatles song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever,’ which Lennon began writing in Almeria.

The finalists will be announced by the US Film Academy in January. Spain has won four Oscars for best foreign language film, in 1994 David’s brother Fernando Trueba won the category for ‘Belle Epoque.’
