Mica Paris – My Temptation

Euro Weekly News

VIVACIOUS, bubbly and caring were immediately the three words that came to mind, when interviewing Mica Paris last night before her appearance at Old Joys Pub in Puerto Banus. Regardless of the sweltering heat and usual pre-show chaos, when there was chance to sit with her for 10 minutes, it was like we were in a room on our own having a girlie chat.

A legend in her own right, Mica Paris is not ´just a singer as she puts it,’ in fact she says, “If I was just a singer, it would drive me mad.”

She is also a presenter, roving reporter and a regular fill in host on ITV’s This Morning.  And if that isn’t enough to be getting on with, her spare time is dedicated to two charities.

The legendary soul singer is the ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Trust, and the patron of the charity KIN (Kibera in Need). Mica travels to Kenya once a year to support the families in the Kibera slum and by the look on her face as she describes walking through the poverty stricken area, it’s a very challenging and heart wrenching experience. “You gag as you walk through, I was ill for four days the last time I came back, but we have to help them,” she explains. “I’m lucky, and I want people to realise how spoilt we all are, it’s a reality check on life.” Adding, “We worry about what our hair looks like or what necklace to wear, but when you go to these places, you realise that our worries are nothing compared to what these children live with.”  Mica’s children also help out with the charity work; and although it is too dangerous for them to go to the Kibera slums, she tells me that they do a lot of charity work around her home town of London.

Fascinated how this beautiful 5ft 11” woman can look so amazing at 45 and knowing articles written about her yo-yo dieting and helter-skelter weight fluctuations, when I asked her to divulge her secret of a balanced healthy body, surprisingly she didn’t talk about personal trainers, chia seeds and yoga classes. Instead she said it’s simple,”1 litre of water a day, vegetables, protein and a gym session three times a week,” and by the look on her face, when Alex looked over, a gorgeous boyfriend seems to help!

As a crusader herself, she happily agreed to support the Euro Weekly News campaign ‘No means No,’ a movement against abuse to women and the promotion of equality for women in a message that means, when I say no it really means no.

Mica is embarking on two new albums to be released later this year. She is collaborating on the new Freemasons album and working with Rod Templeton, the songwriter who is famed for writing the historic no 1 hit for Michael Jackson ‘Thriller.’
