POLICE are investigating possible links between two shootings in the Mijas area in one week, a Spanish government representative has stated.

On Thursday September 17, a Colombian man was shot to death in his car in Las Lagunas, and just one week later, on September 24, a 34-year-old Irish man named by the police as Gary PH was killed by a masked gunman as he left his home in Calahonda.

Witnesses reported that the victim, dressed in sports clothes, left his ground floor flat at 11.30am to find the masked man waiting for him and a chase round the swimming pool ensued with shots being fired.

The killer, described by local residents from the Angel de Miraflores complex on Calle Geranio as tall, wearing jeans, a black sweatshirt, gloves and a balaclava, then calmly walked off up the hill to a waiting car.

The vehicle, reportedly a BMW which had been stolen days beforehand, was later found in Cabopino and police stated it had been intentionally set on fire to hide evidence.

Government representative in Malaga Province Miguel Briones stated later that night that intense investigations were under way to get to the bottom of the crime and discover whether it could be linked to the previous week’s incident.
