GSD plans for Victoria Stadium

GIBRALTAR’S Opposition party, the Gibraltar Social Democrats (GSD), have laid out their plans for a new national football stadium, according to GBC News.

The GSD has got in touch with local football clubs to describe its plan, which would involve upgrading the current Victoria Stadium and include a range of new facilities including a raised pitch for junior football.

The GSD wish to renovate the stadium to a UEFA Category Three pitch, with plans in the future to upgrade it to UEFA Category Four standard.

The Opposition hopes that their plan will gain support amongst Gibraltar’s citizens, many of whom are against the current government’s plan to build a brand new stadium at Europa Point, one of the last remaining open spaces on the Rock.

Although as a multi-use stadium the pitch would not be eligible for UEFA funding, the GSD think that the plan would be a good general investment in sport on the peninsula, and not just football.
