Bishop of the diocese Jesus Catala presided over the religious ceremony which began at 11am at Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. A little after midday, Bishop Catala placed a crown made by Orfebreria Maestrante in Sevilla, on the statue’s head.
Hundreds of parishioners participated in the procession that followed through the town’s streets.
The ceremony was also attended by Mayor Francisco Delgado Bonilla and representatives of the Association of Shopkeepers and Entrepreneurs of Velez Malaga (ACEV), among other dignitaries from the region.
