BENISSA’S ABAI association has again commenced its fire-watching programme.
Members take turns to watch Bernia and La Solana and are in permanent communication with the region’s coordination and fire extinction services.
The environmental group has been keeping watch since 1993 when fires sweeping through the Bernia and Olta sierras left devastation in their wake.
In its 21 years of existence ABAI, now firmly established as a fireprevention group, has led to the creation of other local bodies including Proteccion Civil and Benissa’s volunteer firemen.
As reported earlier in the Euro Weekly News, ABAI is also involved in a project to regenerate Bernia’s woodlands through natural beepollination.
Readers interested in collaborating with ABAI can contact the association’s president Antonio Baydal on 659 895 895.
