New waste centre for Huercal Overa

Mayor Domingo Fernandez (centre) and councillors visit the new waste centre

RESIDENTS of Huercal Overa will soon have a new centre to deposit household waste that is not suitable for collection by existing methods.

The new ‘Punto Limpio’ will be located next to the municipal warehouse on land donated by the council. The centre is a voluntarily controlled waste collection area that complements the existing systems in the town. There will be five metal containers located in a loading area for wood and furniture, garden waste, and bulky packaging. There will also be a covered area for waste that requires special attention, such as oils, batteries, photographic and radiographic material, aerosols, electrical and electronic equipment, paints and solvents, fluorescent lighting and mercury. There will also be separate areas for glass, paper and cardboard, packaging and textiles.

Mayor of Huercal Overa, Domingo Fernandez, visited the site today with Manuel Buitrago and Alonso Mena, representatives from the council, to see how the work was progressing. “With this project, residents will be able to have a place for all kinds of waste. Sometimes through ignorance or lack of facilities they have ended up in the wrong areas. With this move, Huercal Overa takes another step towards a much better environment. Once we have this facility, our residents, who are concerned about recycling, will be able to make use of it,” said the mayor.
