Ten immigrants still at large after fleeing Immigration Centre

SEVENTEEN immigrants of African descent managed to escape from the Immigrant Centre in Valencia yesterday. It is believed that they forced their way past the cleaning ladies when they saw that one of the doors was open.

The inmates, most of whom were Algerian, fled through the doors at approximately 12.05pm, after noticing that one of the security men was off sick.  Seven of the men, who are awaiting deportation back to their own country were later detained in the vicinity but 10 of the internees are still at large around the city.

During the summer months there is always an influx of illegal African immigrants, taking advantage of the high season tourism in the Coastal areas.
