Almeria Port to be tested to its limits

THREE cruise ships are to dock in Almeria Port this Tuesday in a busy day that will see more than 2,000 travellers descend on the Almerian capital.

The three ships will dock at Almeria, converting the tranquil harbour into a busy port resembling more famous Spanish nautical destinations like Barcelona, Valencia or Malaga.

Passengers disembarking here will get the chance to sample all that Almeria has to offer: an opportunity that more often than not goes overlooked with cruise liners opting for bigger destinations.

France’s Club Med 2 will dock at Almeria for the first time, and Britain’s Saga Sapphire and the US’s Wind Surf will also be arriving during the day. In total, more than 2,000 passengers are expected to visit the city.

The three ships are all much smaller than Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, which docked at Malaga last week with over 5,000 passengers aboard, but the arrival of three ships at once will most certainly test the harbour’s organisational skills. As well as the arrival of the three liners, the port will also be expected to maintain its normal level of maritime traffic.

Almeria’s Port Authority has developed a plan in collaboration with the cruise liners which should permit the ships to make berth in the harbour and allow the passengers to disembark without a problem.

Almeria’s tourist office will be providing the visitors with assistance to ensure that they are able to navigate their way around the city easily, discovering everything that Almeria has to offer.
