Man throws TV at police

POLICE in Nerja were in for a surprise weekend when an American ex-marine threw his TV at them from a balcony.

Guardia Civil officers who attended a disturbance in the centre of Nerja during the early hours of last Sunday morning were met with the sight of the 50 inch plasma TV heading straight for them.

Officers had been called to the address after neighbours complained of hearing shouts and crashing sounds coming from within the residence.

After knocking repeatedly on the door without success, the Guardia Civil officers decided to go down into the street to see if they could communicate with the occupants from there.

Without a word of warning, the 33-year-old ex-marine from Maryland, USA, appeared on his balcony and launched the television set directly at the police, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being seriously hurt. Even so, one of the officers had to be attended to for minor injuries.

Officers detained the man on charges of suspected physical abuse of his pregnant wife, and for throwing the TV.

After appearing before a judge in Torrox, the man was handed a restraining order forbidding him to go near his partner or the house.
