THE police chief and two of his assistants have been arrested, accused of accepting bribes and manipulating evidence.

José Antonio Navarro, was taken into custody by the Guardia Civil on Monday after local businesses in Punta Ballena came forward and accused the police of trying to extort money from them and use excessive force on customers and business owners.

Two other police officers were named by the chief of police himself, as they questioned him over the reported incidences. The officers from the dog squad have apparently been turning a blind eye to drug usage in the area, after a video of them in action surfaced this week.

Computers have been seized from all three of the accused pending further investigation.
