A TASTE of Russia came to Spain as the hand of friendship was held out between the two countries.

A four day programme of events was held in Marbella for the First Russian Cultural Meeting Point.

It was a way for the Spanish, indeed all the nationalities represented on the Costa del Sol, to learn and appreciate just a little about the cultural phenomenon that is Russia.

Steeped in history the nation has a unique artistic, cultural and spiritual heritage that many in the western nations know little about. It was a spectacular affair that brought the different cultures together to improve their understanding of each other.

The events, held mainly in the Centro Comercial Marina Banus in Marbella’s Puerto Banus, were well received. Linda Echeverria, who organised the event, was very pleased with how things went. She said: “These days have served to create a cultural bridge between the two countries. We have provided an approach that has created a mutual understanding and a very positive feeling for both communities, particularly those living in Andalucia.

She added that the four days of music, fashion, dance and painting featuring artists including Maxim Rubtsov on flute, pianist Carmen Pérez Blanco, dancing group Kalinka with Russian folk songs and dances, magic master Yuri Chuguyev with his vibraphone and artist Juan Anhelo with his three-dimensional artwork, all of whom were a great success.

The closing ceremony was held with two stunning acts that delighted the 200 attendees. The event started with an enchanting vibraphone concert by Maestro Yuri Chuguyev. After that the appreciative audience was left applauding the two beautiful fashion shows by Russian designer Valeria Farafonova and Spanish designer Antonia García Galiano.

Maik Alexandre, of Canal Sur television and Yuliana Lobacy, Vice-President of the Russian Association Costa Del Sol, presented the evening in a light-hearted and humorous fashion.

Linda Echeverría officially closed the first Russian Cultural Meeting Point Marbella, and thanked the attendees for their presence and the role of all participating companies and artists.

The evening was attended by VIPs from the cultural, political and social world including Juan Domingo (Consul of Costa Rica), Mario Ponce (Consul of Ecuador), Alexandre Akinfiev (Malaga Russian Consul Office Chief), Bernard Adolphe of Agüera, Princess Mary Louise of Prussia, Count Rudi, Ricardo Bocanegra, Viruca Yebra, José Manuel Morán, Julia Regard, Gabiñe Larrazabal (Association of University Women of Marbella), Maria Claude Radziewsky, Dan Ortuño, Svetlana Ciliuta (Nash Dom Association President) and Alla Yevsyukova (President of the Russian Association of the Costa del Sol).
