A TRAFFIC accident at km 3 of the Alhaurín-Fuengirola 3033 main road resulted in the death of a horse this morning.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a horse which had managed to get onto the road was hit and seriously injured.
Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil attended the scene, and on seeing the animal lying in agony on the ground, took pity on the horse.
The Guardia Civil called the president of the Asociación CYD Santa María – a non-profit organisation which acts as a refuge for abandoned and mistreated horses – who arrived with vet Fernando Serna, who regularly works with the organisation.
The animal was put down there and then so as to end its suffering, and the Asociación CYD have said that they intend to prosecute the owner of the horse, whose negligence allowed it access to the dangerous main road.
It is hoped that through taking tough measures with irresponsible owners, incidents such as the one seen this morning can be kept to a minimum.
