TWO men have been arrested after a car chase and shootout with the National Police in Alicante. The incident started in Benidorm, when two men, in a stolen red BMW, refused to stop for a police control. When the car didn’t stop, the police fired two shots at the car but the men sped off towards Alicante, narrowly missing three police officers on the way.
After losing track of the vehicle, the police finally intercepted the car at a petrol station outside Decathlon in Alicante at around 12.15pm. A shootout then occurred between the two sides and ended when the 29-year-old Moroccan driver of the vehicle, had to be taken to hospital after being shot in the leg.
The National Police described the criminals as ‘very dangerous and said they had a previous record for violent robbery, drug trafficking, vehicle theft and also kidnap.’
The two men were arrested on charges of car theft, attempted murder, stealing a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.
