A SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Irish boy has been arrested for attempted murder in Marbella, on the Costa del Sol.

Local Police broke up a fight in Puerto Banus between four Irish tourists at around 3am on August 14, and have detained the boy for kicking a compatriot in the head whilst he was lying on the ground unconscious. The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital.

It is reported that the four young Irishmen were on holiday together on the Costa del Sol. After drinking in a bar, they began fighting amongst themselves over a girl.

The police believe that the brother of the detained boy punched his friend, who fell to the ground, at which point he joined in, kicking him unconscious.

The injured boy was taken first to Costa del Sol Hospital, before being moved to a specialist unit in Malaga when the seriousness of his injuries became apparent. Although he remains in intensive care, he has begun to show signs of improvement.

The older brother, who threw the first punch, has been charged with causing injury, and has been granted bail whilst the prosecution proceeds with investigations.

The younger of the two brothers is being held at a youth detention centre due to his age of 17 years. The police have decided to charge the boy with attempted murder due to the violence of the kick which he allegedly delivered to his victim’s head.

Medical experts agree that the aggressor’s actions could have resulted in the death of his friend, if he had not received the rapid medical attention that he did.

The accused is expected to remain in custody until the date of the trial.
